The St James’s name has been synonymous with excellence, elegance and sophistication over many generations. With the Composite Profiles team assisting the creation of more than 23,000ft2 of Grade A office accommodation on seven floors with a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating, together with five residential units, we ensure this reputation lives on.

This world-class address demands a world-class building. Whilst the prominent Portland Stone façade acknowledges the rich history of the area, at the heart of the building lies a structural steel frame and composite metal flooring, unseen to most but vital for all.

On the corner of St James’s Street and Bennet Street, this project included demolishing the original building and erecting a new one, including a double basement. All this adjacent to a London Underground interchange tunnel and many busy roads.

Our challenge was to provide a comprehensive and economic metal decking solution, whilst factoring in the buildability issues associated with a high-profile, historic central London location, where transportation hubs were not only surrounding the build but beneath it too.

Composite Profiles worked closely with Galliford Try Construction to provide a buildable solution that was also economical. The site itself was typical for central London – tight, surrounded by busy roads and flanked by close neighbours.  With more than 20 years’ experience providing metal decking solutions in central London, the team at Composite Profiles supplied and installed a combination of ComFlor® E60, ComFlor® 51+ and ComFlor® 225 to provide a workable scheme.

The ComFlor® 225 forms part of the specialist deep deck range we offer and requires our teams to receive extensive training from Tata Steel, from detailing to installation, to remain as an approved contractor.

Composite metal decking deliveries will often have more than 1,000m2 on a single load, unlike alternatives such as pre-cast concrete planks. Benefits such as this quickly add up, providing environmental benefits to the overall project by reducing traffic congestion and noise.

Our Mission to provide innovative metal decking solutions to the construction sector, creating amazing inspirational buildings and spaces for society is epitomized in the 55 St James’s Street project.  A very rewarding project to have been a part of from the early stages, and a design that will stand the test of time.
