Ocean Terminal, Southampton

Southampton enhanced its ‘Cruise Capital’ status with the development of Ocean Terminal – the first purpose-built cruise facility to be built at the port for over 40 years.

Ocean Terminal features over 3,800m2 of composite floor decking, 670m of edge shutter and 13,500 No shear studs.  The space inside is divided into two separate floors and has enough room to accommodate 40 check-in desks and 1,500 chairs, together with a 350ft long baggage hall.  A fully licensed café and bar are also available after check-in.

Programme considerations were of utmost importance for this project to ensure cruise ships could utilise the facilities as planned.  The regular shape made composite decking an obvious choice for the design team.
